Dear Members, colleagues, distinguished guests and friends,

Thank you for attending the Chinese American Heart Association (CnAHA)/Academy of Cardiovascular Research Excellence (ACRE) Joint Annual Conference during American Heart Association (AHA) Scientific Sessions in New Orleans on November 9, 2008.

This is the 3rd and by far the largest joint meeting of CnAHA/ACRE that we have ever organized.  We had over 100? members and guests who represented the cardiovascular scientists and physicians from US, China, Taiwan, etc.

After the opening remarks by Dr. Huagui Li, MD, PhD, (MN), Vice President of CnAHA, and Xin L Ma, MD, PhD, (PA), General Secretary of ACRE, we welcomed the addresses from prominent leaders of AHA, Drs. Donna Arnett, PhD, Chair of AHA Research Committee, Ivor Benjamin, MD, Chair of AHA International Committee, Sidney Smith, MD, ex-President of AHA (1995-96), the first Chief Science Officer of AHA (2001-2003) and current Chair of the ACC/AHA Task Force on Practice Guidelines and Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of the World Heart Federation, as well as Navin Nanda, MD Founding President American Association of Cardiologists of Indian Origin (an organization of >3000 members).  They all expressed their heart-felt congratulations and pledged their support for this important meeting and our organizations.  They also told their stories, experience, and fond memories in China and looked forward to collaborating with CnAHA/ACRE and institutions in China in the future.  Dr. Nanda proposed to form a nationwide coalition of all ethnic groups in the US in the future to play a more important role in AHA, ACC and other arenas.

The meeting came to another climax when Dr. Dayi Hu, MD, President of Chinese College of Cardiovascular Physicians, founder of the Great Wall International Congress of Cardiology, and President-elect of the Chinese Society of Cardiology, spoke about cardiovascular disease in China and the challenges, opportunities and strategies.  Dr. Wang Xian, Associate Dean of Health Center, Peking University, congratulated our great success in organizing this event and hoped to have more collaborative opportunity in the future.

Finally, Drs. Shuping Ge, MD, (TX), Vice-President of CnAHA, on behalf of President of Dr. Leng Jiang, MD, (MA), and Alex Chen, PhD, (PA), President of ACRE presented the State of Organizations, i.e. CnAHA and ACRE, respectively.  They also reported the activities in the past year, including conferences during ACC, ASE, and GW-ICC/CnAHA.

Next year, we will organize conferences during ACC and ASE in 2009.  We will also co-sponsor symposiums in the 20th Great Wall International Cardiology Conference in Beijing for a 3rd consecutive year.  We will also form a coalition (CnAHA/ACRE) to organize a conference during AHA in Florida in 2009.

In 2009, CnAHA will re-elect a new board and its leadership.  We need your participation, volunteerism, support, and leadership to make our organization to grow, and be your voice.  We will also continue to work on the possibility for CnAHA and ACRE to tie the knot.

Finally, we want to thank Boston Scientific, Inc. for its sponsorship for this successful meeting. More importantly, we want to thank all of you to come to this meeting, to continue to support CnAHA/ACRE and to work together for many years to come.  We cordially invite you to join CnAHA/ACRE and to tell us what you would like see and hear from CnAHA/ACRE in our future activities.

We look forward to seeing and working with you again in the future in the US, China, and beyond.

Sincerely yours,
