Chinese American Heart Association Newsletter #6-2009

Dear CnAHA members, colleagues, and friends,

I want to give you a brief report on some highlights in CnAHA in June of 2009.

CnAHA Events in June:

CnAHA Meeting/Dinner during American Society of Echocardiography (ASE)

Grace’s Mandarin Restaurant in Gaylord National Conference Center, Washington, D.C, June 7th, 2009      The CnAHA members, colleagues and friends from all over the world gathered to enjoy a wonderful evening organized by Drs. Gong-Yuan Xie and Cynthia Taub.  Featured speakers were Drs. Julio Perez, Director of Echocardiography, from Washington University, and Michael Picard, Past-President of ASE, Director of Echo from the Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School.  Dr. Shuping Ge, President of CnAHA, also introduced the CnAHA and presented its current missions to our new members.  He strongly encouraged member participation and volunteerism.   Under a low-key and relaxed environment, our members spent a lively evening with memorable discussions and delicious food.

Future events:

1.  CnAHA-AHA Conference and integration with ACRE I am very glad to inform you that we will have a CnAHA-AHA Conference possibly with ACRE in November 2009 in Orlando, FL.  I want to thank Dr. Jianming Li, VP of CnAHA for his tremendous efforts to secure the sponsorship by Boston Scientific.  Please mark your calendar to prepare to meet the leaders of AHA, Chinese Society of Cardiology (CSC), industry, and more importantly, your colleagues, collaborators and friends of CnAHA.  We believe this will be the best and most productive meeting ever!  Potential contributors are welcome for this event.  See you in Orlando!

2.  CnAHA column in Chinese Medical Tribune (CMT) We are working on a project to develop a CnAHA column in Chinese Medical Tribune (CMT)(http://www.cmt.com.cn/). The inaugural issue is anticipated in July. This column will include an introduction of CnAHA to the millions of CMT readers and a featured article in cardiovascular medicine and research.  This is a great opportunity to connect with your colleagues in China.  If you would like to contribute, please contact Secretary Peng Yan at (pengyan@ameritech.net).

3.  CnAHA-Young Investigator Award

We are working with AHA to select the 3 most meritorious abstracts accepted by AHA as our annual Young Investigator Award winners.  Please send your abstract, if accepted by AHA in 2009, to Dr. Jie Cheng at (jiecheng@att.net) as a candidate of CnAHA-YIA (First prize $500, second prize $300, and third prize $200 with a plaque).

4.  CnAHA Board of Directors/Foundation and Honorary Board

In the last CnAHA Board meeting, there was a motion to establish a Board of Directors/Foundation to guide and fund our various activities, and an Honorary Board by those who are internationally established leaders in cardiovascular medicine and cardiovascular research and who are also devoted contributors to CnAHA.   We will continue to explore these possibilities.

News and People on the move

We would like to congratulate Dr. Dayi Hu, MD, as the new President of Chinese Society of Cardiology.  Dr. Hu has been an avid supporter and frequent speaker for CnAHA.   We believe his presidency will mark a new era of collaboration between CnAHA and CSC.

Have a fantastic summer.

Cordially yours,

Shuping Ge, MD, FAAP, FACC, FASE
