I want to give you a brief report on some highlights in
CnAHA in May of 2009.
China Evening:
Advancing Patient Care Through International Clinical Study
Collaboration
This historic event was
held on May 14, 2009 at Marriott Copley Place, Boston during Heart
Rhythm Society (HRS) annual scientific session. This is the first
time that CnAHA co-organized this event with Medtronic and Biosense
Webster.
The Part 1 of the
program included speeches by: Drs. Richard Page, MD, FHRS, HRS
President; Thomas F. Deering, MD, FHRS, CCDS, Chair, HRS Membership
Committee; Shu Zhang, MD, PhD/Chang-Sheng Ma, MD, PhD, from Chinese
Society of Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiology (CSPE) and Chinese
Heart Rhythm Society (CHRS), and PANORAMA, COMPARE, BE CAREFUL and
other clinical trial investigators from US and China.
The Part 2 focused on
an introduction of Chinese American Heart Association (CnAHA)(Dr.
Jian-Ming Li, MD, PhD), CnAHA Young Investigator Award program (Dr.
Jie Cheng, MD, PhD,) and Sino-US ARVD collaborative initiatives (Dr.
Li Zhang, MD). Keynote Speeches were delivered by Drs. Guy
Fontaine, MD, PhD., who first described ARVD and Frank Marcus, MD,
who directs the US ARVD Registry.
This was a fantastic event!
There were over 200 participations worldwide. We want to thank Mr.
Wang Li (Medtronic), Biosense Webster and our CnAHA EP group (Drs.
Jianming Li, Li Zhang, Jie Cheng, and Huagui Li, and others) for
their vision, tireless work and collaborative efforts to put together
such a far-reaching event and look forward to future opportunities to
make significant impact in this field in the US, China and worldwide.
CnAHA Logo
As you may know, we have
posted our logo on the front page of the Great Wall International
Congress of Cardiology ().
Many thanks to Dr. Dayi Hu and Mary Yin. We are working with
Chinese Medical Tribune (CMT), Heart 365, and iCirculation to
collaborate with them to promote CnAHA as well. I have asked Dr. Jie
Cheng, Chair of CnAHA Academic Affairs to develop a CnAHA YIA
announcement and to advertise it in these venues.
The 3rd
Oriental Congress of Cardiology, May 28-31, Shanghai
A few of the CnAHA members
were invited to speak during the 3rd Oriental Congress of Cardiology,
including Drs. Leng Jiang (CV imaging), Gongyuan Xie (CV imaging),
David Zhao (CV intervention), and Shuping Ge (Structural Heart
Disease). The event was at the Pu Dong Conventional Center in
Shanghai. We will continue to explore future collaborative efforts.
CnAHA
column in Chinese Medical Tribune (CMT)
We are working on a
project to develop a CnAHA column inChinese Medical Tribune (CMT)(
http://www.cmt.com.cn/). The inaugural issue is anticipated in June.
This issue will include an introduction of CnAHA to the millions of
CMT readers, a summary of HRS and a brief report of China Evening. I
believe you are as excited as I am to see the fruition of this
initiative that was conceived during our CnAHA-ACC conference in
Orlando, FL. Future issues will feature on cardiovascular imaging,
congenital heart disease, heart transplant, etc.
CnAHA membership
and outreach efforts
I want to commend Dr.
Huigui Li, Dircetor, CnAHA memberships, for his tremendous efforts to
continue to reach out to recruit new members. Huagui has send
e-mails to announce new Life-Time Members, Members and Associate
Members. He has also sent out e-mail to those who may be interested
and potentially benefit from joining CnAHA. I encourage you to
continue to involve your colleagues, collaborators and friends whom
may be interested in learning about CnAHA and/or joining us.
CnAHA-AHA
Conference and integration with ACRE
We have started working on
the CnAHA-AHA Conference, the largest annual CnAHA event of the year,
and integration with ACRE. We will need your help and volunteerism
in these important endeavors. I will update you in the future.
People on the
move
As many of you know, I was
offered and have accepted a position as the Chief of Cardiology,
Chief and Co-Director of the Heart Center at St. ChristopherÂ’s
Hospital for Children (SCHC)/Drexel University College of Medicine,
in Philadelphia, PA. This is a tremendous opportunity/challenge,
whichever way you put it. During the process of making such a
difficult decision, I have had a lot of help, advice and
encouragement from many of you, to which I am highly indebted. I
look forward to your continued friendship, help, and collegiality
during this transition and future endeavors.
Once again, thank you for
your continued support and service to CnAHA.
Cordially
yours,
Shuping Ge, MD, FAAP, FACC, FASE President, Chinese
American Heart Association
