Chinese American Heart Association (CnAHA) and Academy of Cardiovascular Research Excellence (ACRE) Newsletter #2011-01
Dear members, colleagues, and friends,
Happy New Year (Rabbit)!
As we reflect on what we have done in 2010, and to look forward to our resolutions for 2011, we want to take a few minutes of your time for some highlights.
2010
1. CnAHA-ACRE Conference/Dinner during AHA 2010
The event was held on 11/14/2010 in Old Beijing (Lao Beijing) Chinese Restaurant in Chicago (Chairs: Drs. Jianming Li, and Xinliang Ma). Over 100 CnAHA/ACRE members and guests, as well as leadership from AHA/ASA and CSC (Chinese Society of Cardiology) attended the meeting. We first reviewed the State of the Organizations (CnAHA and ACRE)(Drs. Shuping Ge and Alex Chen), presented Young Investigator Awards in Basic sciences, clinical sciences and translational sciences (Dr. Jie Cheng). The 2010 CnAHA Special Award went to Stephen Prudhomme, Vice President, Global Strategies, American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, who was instrumental to our close collaboration with AHA/ASA and our YIA program. Dr. Dr Pierre Fayad spoke to us, representing AHA leadership, AHA’s Science Advisory and Coordinating Committee and AHA’s International Committee. Special thanks went to Peng Yan, the host from the City of Chicago to arrange the meeting venue, AV and, last but not the least, to Grace Fu Palma, Vice President of Terason (www.terason.com), the sponsor of the event.
2. East-Meet-West by Chinese Medical Tribune
We were invited to this meeting/dinner during AHA. Dozens of Chinese cardiologists and scientists came to AHA sponsored by CMT (Mr. Mark Danderson, Vice President, China Medical Tribune). They all joined AHA and CnAHA membership. After the meeting they returned to China to share what they had learned about AHA and about CnAHA!
3. AHA-CnAHA symposium during GWICC
During a brief meeting among CnAHA, AHA/ASA, and GWICC/CSC, it was proposed that CnAHA will bridge collaboration between AHA/ASA and CSC/GWICC in 2011 in a format of an AHA-CnAHA joint forum in GWICC in 2011. If this occurs as we anticipate and plan, it will be historic event that the 4 largest cardiovascular organizations/platforms (AHA, ESC, ACC, and CSC/GWICC) will finally be on a single platform in Beijing. We are very excited that CnAHA plays a significant role in this landmark collaboration!
2011
1. We have established a new basic science council in ChAHA to accommodate the growing need of cardiovascular science and scientists with Chinese origin. This will provide a unique platform to continue the brotherly collaboration between CnAHA and ACRE. We hope we can finally tie the knot soon.
2. We will continue to organize activities in the US and China. Please stay tuned for our announcements.
3. We will continue to reach out for new members and fresh blood. Our members are our most valuable assets of our Organizations.
4. We will re-elect our Leadership, Board, and Committees this year. We encourage you to consider your volunteerism to lead our Organizations to a brighter future.
Finally, we thank you for what you do for CnAHA/ACRE. We look forward to work with you and for you in 2011.
Cordially yours,
Shuping Ge, MD
