President, the Academy of Cardiovascular Research Excellence (ACRE) (2010-2012)
Dr. Zhongjie Sun is currently a tenured professor and the Director of the Robert & Mary Cade Laboratory in the Department of Physiology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Dr. Sun received PhD in Physiology from the joint education program of Shanghai Medical University and University of Florida. He had postdoctoral training in cardiovascular (CV) physiology at the University of Florida. His research interest is molecular mechanism of hypertension and molecular therapy for cardiovascular disease. His long-term goal is to identify and characterize new genes that are involved in cardiovascular disease for the purpose to develop preventive strategies and therapeutic approaches. He is particularly interested in the development of animal models of human CV and metabolic diseases and the investigation of new signaling pathways and therapeutic mechanisms of these diseases. Dr. Sun published extensively in these areas. His research has been continuously supported by the National Institute of Health (NIH) and American Heart Association (AHA). He currently serves on the editorial board of Hypertension and Physiological Genomics. Dr. Sun also serviced in several national and international grant review panels for NIH, AHA, National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, American Institute of Biological Sciences, Canada Foundation of Innovation, and Wellcome Trust Foundation, and US Army and Navy. Dr. Sun currently is President of the Academy of Cardiovascular Research Excellence (ACRE) and Chair of the APS Physiological Genomics Group.

Robert & Mary Cade
